Troy Arts Council

Serving Troy Alabama and our regional communities

HISTORY

The Troy Arts Council was founded in 1972 and ever since has dedicated time, money and energy into enriching the lives of people in Troy and Pike County. Through facilitating events of the visual arts, theatre and music, Troy Arts Council has brought an unparalleled amount of culture to our area. Some of the most outstanding artistic programs that have come to Pike County were made possible by the Troy Arts Council and its patrons. For over fifty years, TAC has been the artistic outlet for the community.

VENUES & PRODUCTIONS

Our primary public venue for most concerts is Crosby Theatre, located in Smith Hall at 483 University Ave, Troy, AL 36082 on the Troy campus of TROY University. It is an ADA compliant venue and guests may park in the adjacent faculty/staff parking lot after 5 PM weekdays without fear of ticketing. This facility is made available through a longstanding partnership with TROY University, the College of Communication and Fine Arts, and the Student Affairs office in support of the arts and arts education.

There is a food court and dining hall within walking distance of the theatre. You can find a campus map here.

There is no box office phone, but tickets are available anytime through this website or at the door on the date of the event 30 minutes prior to curtain time.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Troy Arts Council is widely known for its sponsorship of public concerts by world-acclaimed artists. Less well known is its involvement in educational and community projects throughout Pike County. Students in local elementary, middle, and high schools are often treated to performances by the visiting artists and groups engaged for the evening concerts. TAC also supports local artists and performing groups such as Shelia Jackson and Friends and the Southeastern Alabama Community Band. These perform on our regular concert series and are among the favorites.

Pike County students also receive scholarship help provided by TAC through the annual Jean Lake (art) Scholarship and the Troy Music Study Club Scholarships. Local music, drama and art teachers may also augment their meager school budgets by receiving mini-grants from TAC to purchase supplies and equipment.

Troy Fest, a major regional arts festival, has evolved from efforts of the TAC many years ago to sponsor Art in the Park, a small local show. Over the years, the City of Troy and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce have joined the Troy Arts Council in presenting this event which involves the entire community and attracts patrons and artists from throughout the Southeast.
