Five reed players and entrepreneurs unbounded by limits or categorization, the quintet boasts a “collective voice driven by real excitement and a sense of adventure." (The Wire), and has graced the Classical Billboard Charts with each of their last three albums, including #2 in April, 2024. Winner of seven national chamber music prizes including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal, Akropolis is known for performing “works that brilliantly exploit their unique instrumentation” (Gramophone). Join us as we celebrate our veterans with Goldie Lahr and the Blue Anchor Belles. The Blue Anchor Belles are a group of Military wives who love to sing and provide music therapy to veterans and their families. They create unique three-part harmonies for beloved WWII-era music, bringing the top hits from the 40s and 50s to all generations. This concert, co-sponsored by the City of Troy, is free and open to all. In case of rain, the performance will be in the Studio at 303 E. Walnut Street. No tickets needed.
Grammy winning musician Jason Mingledorff performs at the Studio in Troy on Tuesday September 16th at 7 PM! Tickets are $20 for general admission / $5 for students. Jason is proud to be a recipient of one of this year's coveted Southern Arts Jazz Roads Grants. With the help of this grant, Jason will be bringing his Quintet on the road for a tour of his home state of Alabama this September 15-20. Guitarist Bert Cotten (his bandmate from Funk Monkey and also a native Alabamian), keyboardist Mike Lemmler (George Porter, Jr. & the Runnin' Partners), bassist Ed Wise (featured on Jason's first album), and The Iguanas' drummer Doug Garrison (also featured on Start It!) will be joining Jason as he brings his music throughout the state.

THEY CALL ME Q is the story of a girl from Bombay growing up in the Boogie Down Bronx who gracefully seeks balance between the cultural pressures brought forth by her traditional parents and wanting acceptance into her new culture. Along the journey, Qurrat Ann Kadwani (Q) transforms into 13 characters that have shaped her life including her parents, Caucasian teachers, Puerto Rican classmates, and African-American friends.
